Accessibility Campaigns

At the Better Business Network we are always looking for more ways to make ourselves and our members more inclusive and accommodating of people from all backgrounds. We have worked with several partner organisations to help raise awareness and train our members in the hope of creating a more accessible workplace culture.

Through collective action we can break down the stigmas and barriers associated with all forms of disability, creating a world which is more accessible for all. Check out some of the campaigns we’ve been running.

DEAF AWARENESS

We worked with The Royal Association for Deaf People in order to generate awareness surrounding the needs of the deaf community.

As part of this work we provided in-person training courses for our network members in multiple sites across the UK.

These courses were delivered by leading experts with real lived experience in the deaf community. The training course was specifically designed to improve participants’ awareness, communication skills, and confidence, enabling them to contribute to breaking down the barriers faced daily by people who are deaf or have a hearing loss.

Our members learnt about topics including language, communication and the wider deaf community.  Everyone came away feeling more confident about the issues faced by the deaf community and how to help support them.

Check out our blog on deaf awareness training.

Disability Confidence Scheme

The Disability Confident Scheme supports employers to make the most of the talents that disabled people can bring to a workplace. Since the scheme was launched, over 20,000 organisations have signed up with more joining all the time

Disability Confident organisations play a leading role in changing attitudes for the better. They’re changing behaviour and cultures in their own businesses, networks and communities, and reaping the benefits of inclusive recruitment practices.

The Better Business Network has been working to promote the scheme, with every member who joins gaining an information piece on it. We actively promote the scheme and encourage our members to join. We are pleased to say that many of our members have gone on to become disability confident employers.

The scheme helps businesses think differently about disability, and improve how they attract, recruit and retain disabled workers. Through involvement and engagement in the scheme, we can collectively all improve accessibility to work for all sections of society.
